My Favorite Things in 2023
Another year came and went, so here are four moments of mine in 2023. I want to warn people that this just me listing the media I experienced in the past year. The list was made out of subverting people’s expectations. Also, this isn’t me reviewing media, by the way. Anyway, let’s begin. You Can (Not) Understand If you told me over a decade ago about my thoughts about Neon Genesis Evangelion, I would tell you that I couldn’t understand what was happening. I was like that with FLCL, until I finally understood it. Of course, when I thought about it, there were two things I blamed on why I couldn’t enjoy Evangelion: I wasn’t mature enough to enjoy it, and I didn’t properly watch it. When I noticed that Evangelion was on Netflix, I figured, “Hey, I might as well watch it.” Who would’ve thought I would’ve been a fan? I binge-watched all twenty-six episodes of the original series, Death (True)², the End of Evangelion, and the Rebuild of Evangelion film series. I can now understand what
